Miss Graff gave Pre-School a new resource to explore today. As soon as the Cuisenaire rods were put out the children immediately began to build with them!
As the children were building, they began to notice the rods were different colours. Some of the children then began to collect rods that were the same colour, “I need all the orange ones!”
Then they tried to stand the rods up. This was very tricky! They kept falling over, but they persevered.
We also noticed the rods were different sizes, “This one is a baby.” “It’s tall.” There was lots of great language linked to colours and sizes.
The children enjoyed using the rods to create colourful pictures and for some children the colours reminded them of fireworks.
Next time we play with the rods, we will see what else we can do with them.
