Express Yourself

The children in school have been involved with the Children’s Mental Health week. The focus for 2021 was ‘Express Yourself.’  The Royal Patron HRH The Duchess of Cambridge’s video message marked the start of the week.

Year Three were encouraged to use different mediums and art forms to show self-expression. Together,  spoke about talents and discussed that we can do anything we put our minds to. We talked about the importance of thinking of yourself as being creative and that children should be able to express themselves freely and respectfully without judgement from others.

For the first activity, the children had the task of taking their pencil wherever it led. The children then applied a personal choice of colours to create an abstract art piece.

The children also put together colour wheels…we spoke about calming colours and the tones.

The children had fun experimenting with paint splattering! The results were incredible and LOTs of fun! We also painted over our self-portraits !

Year Four also had a go with squiggle art and included concentric circles inspired by Kandinsky to express themselves through colour. Additionally, they also drew items of clothing that they would like to wear to express themselves!
