As the sun shone down on Littledown Sports Centre, Kingsleigh’s invitation cup football team graced the pitch.
Mr Bainton and Mr Evan’s began the afternoon with one of their legendary team talks before the boys took their positions.
The team started with a spirited 5-2 win over a good Corpus Christi team. A solid performance in defence by Harry and Joshua, supported by some great saves by Jack allowed the strikers to secure the win.
The second game posed difficulties as a strong Pokesdown team offered a big challenge to the team. An evenly matched first half finished 0-0. A skilful penalty by Zach and goals from Justin and Lewis meant a 3-0 win and a great start to the competition.
A tense final game saw Kingsleigh needing a draw to advance into the semi-finals. After falling behind to a good goal, the boys rallied well. A great goal by Ethan secured a 3-1 win and a place in the later stages.
A talented St James team faced Kingsleigh in the semi finals. The game started with a flurry of chances that could not be converted. Tom and Kian performed some skills to evade oppositions but the team couldn’t break through the tough defence. With only minutes to go, St James snuck in to score the winning goal.
A fantastic tournament for Kingsleigh with the boys securing a 3rd place finish out of 16 schools present. Their attitude and effort were fantastic, showing team spirit and commitment to each other. Well done to all the boys.
