Year 3 have been working on an art project inspired by the illustrator Quentin Blake. He illustrated most of Ronald Dahl’s books, as well as creating his own characters. We had already spent time as a year group exploring drawing in many different forms (both abstract and observational) drawing big and small, being inspired by music and exploring different media. We then moved on to looking at the artwork produced by Quentin Blake.
Then, we explored some different drawing techniques that might be useful to us, continuous line drawing and straight line drawing. We drew people in different poses in the classroom using these methods.
Next, we had a go at imitating Quentin Blake’s illustrations.
In our final lesson, we created our own illustrations inspired by everything we had practised so far. As you can see, the children produced some amazing illustrations.
