Year 3 have been making bug houses as our Design and Technology project. This follows on from our science learning about animals and their habitats. We learnt how important insects are for our environment and that their numbers were in decline. We went to see what insects we could find and look at their habitats.
We then investigated existing bug houses that are available to buy or have been made by other people.
We investigated the strength of different shapes and the properties of different materials to help us to decide how to design our bug houses.
We decided to make wooden, triangular bug boxes. Next, we had to measure the wood, and then it was time to saw it and attach the pieces together.
Finally, we filled our bug houses with natural materials we had collected to make them ready for their new inhabitants.
It has been a fabulous week of learning. Well done Year 3!
