In maths, we have applied our understanding of arrays to complete our investigation. We began to draw out a chocolates box with 36 spaces, but we needed to figure out _ x _ = 36. The children found out that 4 x 9 = 36 and drew their arrays for their box.
Next, the children had 4 types of chocolates to place in the box. We found that we needed 9 of each colour because 4 x 9 = 36.
They needed to place the chocolates so that the one colour was not next to the same colour.
They all took it in turns to place the chocolates (coloured cubes) into the spaces. In addition, they were involved in mathematical discussions to explain their reasoning behind their placement. This investigation helped the children to identify patterns within mathematics and aid in their manipulation of number sentences.
