Organising different types of rocks

In science we have been looking at the three different types of naturally occurring rock: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. In addition, we also identified human-made rocks which contain some naturally occurring rocks too! These are some of the rocks we investigated:

During our investigation, we were able to research the different rocks as a class by looking and touching the different types and using the iPad to answer questions the children had about the rocks. We found out some really interesting information such as how they are formed, where they are predominantly found and what they can be used for. For instance we spoke about chalk and graphite being used as writing aids.

From our research, we were able to categorise the rocks and draw pictures of them. The children loved the investigation!
