‘Sew’ cute…

Year 3 have been thoroughly enjoying their Woodland Watch topic and it has been lovely to see how much the children are getting outside in nature for their home learning.

As part of our topic, during our Design and Technology (DT) lessons, the children have been busy designing and making puppets of animals that can be found in the woodland.

Can you think of some of the animals we might be creating?

We have been thinking about the design process whilst making our puppets.

First, we needed to sketch our designs and label them in detail…

Next, we practised our sewing on a piece of material and discussed different techniques and stitches we could use such as; back stitch, running stitch and cross stitch. Lots of us found it tricky and we had to really show our school value of  ‘Astro Aspiration’ and persevere to be able to do it. The teachers have been so impressed with some children who have helped others.

We are now ready to make our puppets, closely following our designs. Let’s hope you will soon be able to see our beautiful creations and our perseverance will pay off. Watch this space…
