Year 4 had a brilliant day learning and experiencing all things South American! We discovered which countries make up the continent of South America, looked at their flags and located famous landmarks throughout the continent. The children used atlases to identify where they were and their neighbouring countries.
We looked at a beautiful art form, Mola that originates from Panama and Columbia. We discussed the techniques and patterns applied and the usage of these designs to decorate textiles. The children recreated this style of art adding their own twist.
We embraced the varying cultures, tasted a mixture of famous South American foods and even cooked our own version of Empanadas. Some foods were loved however some had a mixed reaction.
To finish the day, we learnt some Spanish greetings as this is the most popular language spoken and celebrated as a year group with a carnival styled dance.
