Water safety with the RNLI

Year 3 recently had the pleasure of having RNLI volunteers come to our school as part of our RNLI topic this half term. The volunteers spent time with each class and discussed the role of the RNLI and how to keep safe near water, especially the beach this summer. The children (and staff) were shocked to find out the meaning of the different flags on beaches and why they are very important to follow when keeping safe in the water.

The children were also taught about how to keep safe if ever stuck in water and the importance of floating flat on your back in a star position to help keep you buoyant whilst awaiting help from lifeguards or RNLI lifeboats.

The children will be taking part in fundraising events later on into the term to help raise as much money as possible for the wonderful volunteers who work for the RNLI.

Stay tuned for our fundraising efforts!
