To supplement this terms learning, Year 2 had a day exploring the UK. Each class represented a different country (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
Easily the most popular part of the learning was the food tasting.
The children loved the Welsh cakes:
Couldn’t get enough of the English Jam tarts and crumpets:
Went crazy for the Scottish shortbread and Irn Bru:
The Irish potato cakes and fruit loaf was a real hit!
Along with food tasting the children also learnt facts about each country ready to complete their fact files in the coming weeks.
Their were some very special activities the children completed in each classroom which they will never forget!
The Scottish dancing in Mrs Elder’s class was tricky but very enjoyable! Miss Mergatroyd also asked her class to dance but this time they tried Irish dancing and we had some excellent moves from the children.
Mr Green taught his class some simple Welsh and they learnt to count in the language. Lots of the children can now say how old they are in Welsh.
The children learnt all about the Royal Family and sang some English nursery rhymes in Miss Ambler’s class.
Overall it was a very enjoyable day for the children AND the adults!
