Preschool Home Learning Week beginning 29th March
Here is a guide to how best to support your children while they are learning from home. The purpose of this is to provide a guide for what home learning might look like and to inform you of what the school plans to do to support you. Obviously, this is an uncertain time and we will seek to adapt these plans as necessary and communicate the changes to you.
It is important for children to keep their skills developing, particularly in reading writing and maths.
Reading: Children should read for thirty minutes every day. This might involve reading on their own, reading with an adult, listening to stories or discussing what they have read. Children should read a range of fiction and non-fiction. Oxford Owl is a useful resource with e books for the colour band level children are reading at. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/
Phonics: Children can access the free PhonicsPlay account. The purpose of the phonics programme is to build children’s speaking and listening skills in their own right as well as to prepare children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills. Guidance will be added weekly by teachers with a focus. https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/ (Username: march20 Password:home). http://www.phonicsplaycomics.co.uk/comics.html On this website, children access comic strips to read related to the sounds they are working on.
Maths: Weekly activities will be available on the website for you to access. It is essential to develop children’s counting skills from 0-20, adding and subtracting single digits e.g. 3+2=5 and be able to recall one more and one less of any given number up to 20.
In addition to this, year groups will set weekly tasks that will go onto the classes’ section of the website each Friday. These will attempt to deliver the rest of the curriculum content in a way that is more home-learning friendly.

We are really keen to keep the communication between home and school as open as it can be. If your child does anything that they are really proud of please email it to their year group email e.g. yearR@kingsleighprimary.co.uk and we will share work on the blog in the usual way.
Thank you for your continued support as we strive to do the best that we can to support our children and community through this unprecedented time.
