Year 4 – Turtles

Latest Updates

Weekly Information

This week in English, we will be continuing to develop our understanding of leaflets and begin creating our own leaflets based on the Amusement Parks we designed. In Maths, we will start our next unit of Fractions. We will understand what a fraction is and how we can use apparatus such as Cuisenaire Rods to support our learning.

General Information

Welcome back to a new term, new year and new decade here at Kingsleigh. We hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas holiday and are looking forward to our upcoming topics. Our topic this half term will ‘Smashing Saxons’ which will take a history focus.

In English, the children will be designing their own amusement parks and creating leaflets to promote them. Children will use persuasive language to entice their readers to visit their park. As the half term continues, we will then take some of the skills from leaflet writing and transfer them to narrative writing. The children will have the opportunity to use their creative writing skills to engage the readers. During Maths, our focus will be fractions. We will work on equivalence, comparison and adding and subtracting fractions. They will also consolidate and master previous learnt skills from the four operations.

In History, we will be exploring the Anglo-Saxon period of British History. We will study aspects such as village life, religion, and the Anglo Saxon army understanding why it was a key moment in British history. During our history topic, we will be taking a trip to Scaplens Court in Poole where children will get the opportunity to take part in hands-on activities that demonstrate live in Anglo-Saxon times. In our Science lessons, children will learn about food chains and webs. We will interpret different food chains and webs and understand key terminology such as producers, consumers, predators and prey.

We hope that the children will enjoy their learning and demonstrate outstanding learning behaviours throughout the half term. If you any questions or concerns, please speak to one of the team and we will be more than happy to help.

Many Thanks
