This Weeks Learning
Year 4 are going to be learning about the Ancient Egyptians. During our topic ‘I want my Mummy!’ the children will be exploring the importance of the Ancient Egyptians and learning about the discovery of Tutankhamen tomb. They will explore artefacts and think about the mummification process and how this is the reason we can uncover secrets about their lives still today. The children will be learning about the river Nile and the importance of it for life during Ancient Egypt and the modern world today. To launch this topic we will be watching the film ‘The Prince of Egypt,’ linking this to our R.E. learning of Moses. The children will take part in an Ancient Egyptian day at school and write in hieroglyphics and create clay bracelets.
In Jigsaw this half term the children will be focusing on the importance of healthy living and how healthy living is not just about eating and exercising but also about having healthy friendships too. During Science sessions, the children will explore sound and identify how they are made.
Our text map for the first part of the term is Pandora, looking at how to write a non chronological report. Generalisers, causal conjunctions and comparison words are different features the children will include in their writing.
The focus for Maths this term is fractions where they will continue to look at fractions of shapes and of amounts.
Welcome to Year 4! Our teaching team this year is Mrs Cutler, Miss Murgatroyd and Mrs Chalk. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Topp, Mrs Fernandez, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Bragginton. We are all looking forward to an exciting year together.

In Year 4, children are still expected to read every school day and practise their spellings and times tables daily. The expectation is that children will know all of their times tables by the end of Year 4. We appreciate your support with this.
We are excited to begin swimming again every Friday and our indoor PE sessions will be on Tuesdays. It’s useful for children to have their PE kits in school every day and take them home at the end of each half term.
If you have any concerns, please do speak to your child’s class teacher or any of our team. We look forward to our year together.
