Year 4 – Turtles

Latest Updates

This Weeks Learning

During this topic, we will be learning about the rainforest. We will be focussing on how deforestation continues to be a disastrous cause of habitat loss. The children will be learning about the different climates and the different layers of the rainforest. We will also be learning about classification and identify and name a variety of living things.

To launch our topic, we will be visiting Monkey World and finding out about the different species found in the rainforest and how it is impacting the species. Alongside this, we will be supporting Monkey World with their work to prevent primates being kept as pets in Britain. In English, will be writing letters to encourage local members of parliament to support the work being done at Monkey World.

We will also be having a visit from Crazy creatures, who will be bringing in a variety of species into school and teaching us about other species that live in rainforests and what we can do to support them and save the rainforests.

The children will be creating posters and leaflets to bring attention to the local community of the dangers rainforests are in and what we can do to help.

In Year 4, children are still expected to read every school day and practise their spellings and times tables daily. The expectation is that children will know all of their times tables by the end of Year 4. We appreciate your support with this.

We are excited to begin swimming again every Friday and our indoor PE sessions will be on Tuesdays. It’s useful for children to have their PE kits in school every day and take them home at the end of each half term.

If you have any concerns, please do speak to your child’s class teacher or any of our team. We look forward to our year together.
