In English, we will be publishing our biographies of our Superheros and focusing on specific sentence structures to enhance our writing skills. In Maths, we will continue learning about addition and focusing our efforts on the compacted addition method.
Welcome back to all those who will be part of Year 4 this year with a particular welcome to those who may be new to our year group. As we begin our academic year, we want to give you a brief overview of the exciting learning that will be taking place this half term.
Year 4 will be beginning the year focusing on our Arts Week programme. Our focus is the book, ‘Tin’ for our creative work and understanding ‘What it means to be human’. ‘Tin’ follows the journey of a young boy who believes he is a ‘proper human’ until a sudden disaster changes his world. We will be using this text as a driver for some writing over the first few weeks too.
As the term progresses, we will be using the fantasy worlds of ‘Tin’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’ to help shape our creative writing skills. Our historical learning this half term will focus upon the Jurassic coast and how the events of millions of years ago has shaped the area. We will be exploring the area and hopefully make some exciting discoveries. As Scientists, we will be understand how electricity works and creating our own ‘mad scientist’ creations.
Throughout the school year, we ask that your child reads every day, practises their times tables and Times Tables Rock stars and completes their spelling tasks. We hope you and your children are looking forward to an exciting year ahead. If you have any questions, concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to see your child’s class teacher.
Many thanks for your support
Year 4 team.
