Year 4 have been learning all about the Anglo- Saxons and the interesting way in which they lived.
As part of our lesson all about the findings of Sutton Hoo we looked at some genuine Anglo-Saxon artefacts that have come from around the ancient capital of Mercia (an Anglo-Saxon kingdom).
The children could not believe that these artefacts were over 1000 years old and still surviving. We looked at some trade weights, bridle pieces and a broach. Seeing the artefacts allowed us to understand better how the Saxons lived and what items they had. To quote one child ‘I can’t believe I’m holding something that is 1400 years old’.
