Year 5 spent the afternoon thinking about the question ‘What would make the world a better place?’ The children made some very thoughtful suggestions (including listening to everyone’s ideas, equality for all, world peace, spreading more happiness, being respectful of all religions and ideas, working together and looking after elderly people. I’m sure you’d agree the world would definitely be better if all these things were more wide-spread!
We also started to look at Buddhism, which the children had quite a lot of ideas about. They thought it had something to do with meditation, Buddha and is predominantly practised in Asia. Today we discovered that it follows the teachings of Buddha and that he meditated to find enlightenment when he saw people suffering in the world around him. The children will learn about how practising Buddhism helps to make the world a better place as the term progresses.
