Year 3 have jumped into our new topic full of enthusiasm and excitement. We are exploring the concept of ‘freedom’ within Art.
We began the project talking about the meaning of ‘freedom’ and how it links to our whole-school focus of expressing ourselves. We then went on to explore mark making in terms of the tools we can use, the marks they allow us to make and how music/sounds can influence the marks we make. The children enjoyed closing their eyes and really ‘feeling’ the marks they were making.
We have also explored sketching techniques and making observational drawings. The children made small drawings focusing on detail and large drawings focusing on freer movements and more flowing lines. They loved choosing their own mark making tools and surfaces. We can’t wait for the rest of this project to see the amazing work the children produce!
