In Year 6 this week; we have started our new learning about Evolution. We recapped our learning on the three types of rock (metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous) and discussed why fossils are only found in sedimentary rocks.
Then, we ordered the stages of fossilisation at our tables before having a go at making our own!
First, we made salt dough from salt, flour and warm water. We kneaded it into balls and then chose an animal to press into our dough.
We then removed the animal (to demonstrate it dying, the soft tissues disappearing and leaving a skeleton behind).
To give the same effect as millions of years of minerals building up in the mould, we poured plaster of par is into our moulds.
What do you think of our fossilised remains?
