Free School Meals

In England, your child qualifies for free school meals (FSM) if your household receives Universal Credit, regardless of your earnings, starting from the 2026/2027 academic year. 

Children whose families received Income Support, income-based jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, the guaranteed element of Pension Credit, or Child Tax Credit (with an annual income under £16,190 and now Working Tax Credit) also qualify. 

Families receiving support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 are also eligible alongside some non-citizen families with NRPF status depending on their income.

Universal Infant Free School Meals 

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free school meals automatically, regardless of household income or benefit status, but parents should still see if they are eligible for free school meals using the link below as they will get the following benefits!

What are the benefits to me if I qualify for free school meals?

If you are eligible for free school meals this is what your child at Kingsleigh will receive:

• Free hot meals until the end of year 6
• Free milk from age 5 onwards
• £25 uniform grant voucher (can be spent at CJI clothing shop)
• Year 6 reduced residential costs
• The school will also receive additional pupil premium funding
